Charles Stickler Branch
Charles Stickler (born 1806) was the second son of Thomas
& Jane Stickler. He married Eliza Jeffries and had eight children,
- five sons and three daughters. He worked as a 'bankman' and later as
a 'general laborer' at the Parkfield Colliery near Pucklechurch, England.
With the depressed economic conditions in Pucklechurch (mine reserves were
close to depletion), his children left Pucklechurch to more favorable locations.
Two sons moved to Bristol and a nearby village with the other sons immigrating
to Canada and the US. Isaac immigrated to Lansford, Pennsylvania in 1848
and Amos likewise in 1889. George, an epileptic, emigrated to America near
the turn of the century and later drowned in a puddle during one of his
epileptic fits.
Charles' youngest daughter, Ellen Jane, immigrated to
Canada in 1904 along with her three children following the accidental death
of her husband. Ellen Jane's descendents, referred to as the Canadian
Sticklers, can be found today living in the Saskatchewan province of
Canada.
Isaac Stickler Branch
Isaac was the sixth child of Charles and Eliza Jeffries and
the first of Charles & Eliza's children to immigrate to the US. There
he married a Welsh lady, Martha Hill in 1873 and settled in Lansford, PA,
where they raised their thirteen children. Isaac worked in the colliery
and later was a mine supervisor for the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Co.
His job as mine supervisor placed him at considerable risk during the 'Molly
Maguire' era. He was active in community affairs, was a Mason, and served
as Director of the Lansford School Board for many years. The descendants
of the family of Isaac and Martha formed what is referred to as the Isaac
Stickler branch of the family. He died in 1910 and was buried at the
Summit Hill Cemetery near Lansford, PA.
